Three-Piece and Vest OEM MOQ at a China Suit Factory: How MTM from 1 and Bulk from 50 Apply

US and SEA boutiques often ask whether a waistcoat “counts separately” for MOQ — or whether a three-piece can start as a single MTM. At Shi Yuan Suit Factory, MTM starts from 1, bulk OEM from 50, samples run 7–14 days after measurements and fabric are confirmed, and production runs 14–21 days after written confirmation. Piece mix must be written into the brief so sample and bulk math stay honest.

This guide is for overseas custom shops and private-label clothiers adding vests / three-piece programs. It is not for C-end shoppers. Acumenwear is our English export site; the factory brand is Shi Yuan (Baodi, Tianjin · Chengxingwang · Est. 2009).

Plain MOQ rules (write them on the order)

  • MTM from 1 — one client three-piece can start as a single made-to-measure order when the brief is complete

  • Bulk OEM from 50 — production runs against a sealed program at 50 pieces minimum for bulk OEM; how jackets / trousers / vests combine into that 50 must be confirmed in writing per order

  • Do not assume “50 jackets + free vests” or “vests don’t count” — ask and lock it on the quote

We do not invent special secret MOQs on a blog. We apply the published anchors and confirm piece mix in writing.

What to specify for vest / three-piece samples

Vest / waistcoat brief

  • Single vs double breasted

  • Front shape / bottom shape notes

  • Back fabric: matching shell vs lining back

  • Adjuster / strap / buckle notes

  • Pocket style

  • Button count and stance

  • How it pairs to jacket (same cloth lot? — see Fabric lot & shade)

Shared suit brief

  • Jacket construction: fused / half canvas / full canvas

  • Trouser finish callouts

  • Measures or house block

  • Fabric path: mill-indent or stock

See Tech pack & photo brief when silhouette details matter.

Sample and production clocks still apply

  • Sample: 7–14 days after measurements and fabric are confirmed (vest cloth and details included)

  • Production: 14–21 days after written confirmation

  • Incomplete vest details = clock not started

Boutique checklist for three-piece programs

  • [ ] Path named: MTM from 1 vs bulk-from-50 OEM

  • [ ] Piece list: jacket / trouser / vest qty

  • [ ] Vest back type stated

  • [ ] Same-lot rule for all pieces yes/no

  • [ ] Construction named for jacket

  • [ ] Measures or chart attached

  • [ ] Seal owner named for all three pieces

  • [ ] Labels if private label

Partner pricing is quoted in writing after piece mix and construction — not as fake retail three-piece packages on a blog.

What we will push back on

  • “Just add a vest” after jacket cut without a new confirm

  • Bulk ask with vague “about 50 pieces somehow including vests” and no matrix

  • Mixing three vest backs in one sealed sample without a plan

  • Asking for production dates before fabric for all pieces is confirmed

How private-label bulk usually handles vests

Common patterns (confirm yours in writing):

  1. Three-piece sealed set — jacket + trouser + vest as the master

  2. Jacket/trouser run + optional vest SKU — vest qty listed separately inside the bulk confirmation

  3. Vest-only add-on later — new written confirm; may need sample if not previously sealed

Size grading for vests should appear on the chart when you scale — see Size-run grading.

SEA / US shop notes

  • Wedding and formal calendars spike three-piece demand — plan peak early

  • Try-on vests in shop need finish and back-type discipline like trousers

  • Remote partners can seal via photos + written notes without a China visit — see Remote partnership

Fabric meterage thinking for three-piece

A three-piece consumes more cloth than a two-piece. When you mill-indent, say whether the vest is in-scope so meterage and lot planning stay coherent. For stock cloth, confirm availability for jacket + trouser + vest before the sample clock starts. Shade discipline across three pieces is stricter than for jackets alone — one missing vest lot can break a wedding delivery promise on your shop floor.

Common questions from boutiques

Can I order one MTM three-piece? Yes — MTM from 1, with a complete brief.

Does a vest-only bulk start at 50? Bulk OEM policy is from 50; confirm vest-only programs in writing on the quote so piece counting is explicit.

Can the vest sample share jacket cloth remnants? Discuss per order. Same-lot intent should be written if shade match matters.

Bottom line for three-piece and vest OEM

Write the piece mix. Use MTM from 1 for individual three-pieces; use bulk from 50 with a written qty matrix when you scale. Keep vest details inside the fabric confirm so 7–14 and 14–21 day windows remain real. Your boutique owns the formalwear offer; we keep the make consistent.
