The Final Suit Fitting at Your Shop: A Handover Checklist Before the Client Takes the Suit Home
Between the suit arriving at your shop and the client walking out with it, there is one appointment: the final fitting. It is the moment the client judges the whole MTM experience, and it is the moment your shop records what the next order needs. Treat it as a checklist, not a chat.
Before the client arrives
Unpack and steam. Suits in transit pick up creases. Steam or press before the appointment so you judge the fit, not the folds.
Check the order sheet. Lapel, pockets, buttons, lining, trouser finish against the brief.
Check the label. Client name or order reference, size label if any, your brand label placement.
The fit points, in order
Collar: sits on the shirt collar with no gap when the client stands naturally.
Shoulders: no dimple below the shoulder point, no overhang.
Chest and button: buttoned jacket lies flat without an X-shaped pull.
Balance: front and back hems level when viewed from the side.
Sleeve length: the shirt cuff shows as your shop prefers.
Jacket length: as briefed.
Trouser waist and seat: no pulling across the seat, no excess when seated.
Trouser break: as briefed, with the client's usual shoes.

Same routes as a list
Style preference changed: a shop adjustment; update the fit record.
Garment differs from the brief: do not alter; report it with the fit claim evidence pack.
Body changed since measuring: re-measure, then adjust or re-order; update the fit record.
The middle row is the one to protect. Once a seam is opened, the cause cannot be read from the garment any more.
Photos at handover
Take the same set every time: front, side, back, full length, client in the suit, same light. These photos become the baseline if the client calls in a month, and they show the factory how your clients actually wear the cut. Keep them with the order number.
Update the fit record

Why the factory cares about your final fitting
Repeat clients with a sealed fit record can often skip a sample and go straight to production (14–21 days after the order is locked), while a new client usually starts with a sample (7–14 days). A clean final-fitting record is what turns a first order into a repeat order. Production days are not delivery days, so plan the fitting appointment after your own arrival line.
