Quick answer: For a client who is losing weight, measure when his weight has settled and leave enough time before the event for a sample and production, rather than measuring early and hoping. Agree a measuring point with him, re-check the body measurements that move most, lock them in writing, and then start the sample. Shi Yuan (Suit Factory) takes MTM from 1 and bulk from 50 per style for overseas tailor shops, MTM boutiques and private-label brands, not retail — send the event timing and the measuring plan on WhatsApp.
The client comes in for a wedding suit, or a suit for a new job. He has been losing weight and says he will lose more before the day. He wants to order now, so the suit is ready; he also wants it to fit the body he will have. Both cannot be true unless the shop plans when to take the final measurements. Order too early and the suit arrives loose. Order too late and there is no time for a sample.
Should you buy a suit while losing weight?
You can, if the measurements are taken at the right point. A made-to-measure suit is cut from the body measured on the day; it cannot guess the body to come. So the question is not whether to order, but when to measure, and what to do if the body keeps changing after the order is locked.
Measure now or wait?
Weight has been steady for a while: measure now — the body is unlikely to move much before the sample.
Still losing, event is far off: wait and book a measuring date — measuring early locks a body that will change.
Still losing, event is close: measure now, note the plan and check closely at the sample — there is no time to wait, so the sample becomes the checkpoint.
Wants a suit now and another later: order one now and re-measure for the next — each suit is cut for the body on its own measuring day.
Work back from the event
Count back from the event date: the shop's own final fitting and any alterations, shipping to the shop, production, the sample, and the sample review. Our side of that is fixed and published: The sample takes 7–14 days; production takes 14–21 days after measurements, cloth and construction are locked. Production days are not delivery days. Shipping and your own fitting time sit on top. That gives the latest sensible measuring day. Put it in the client's diary, not just yours.
Which measurements move most?
Weight usually comes off the waist, stomach and seat first, then the chest and the upper arm. The shoulder, back length, sleeve and leg length move little. So on the measuring day:
Re-take waist, stomach, seat, chest, upper arm and thigh.
Re-check the trouser waist where the waistband will sit; it may have moved.
Keep shoulder, sleeve and leg length from the earlier record if they still check out.
Add a new front and side photo, because posture can change with the weight.
What we need at handoff is in the measurement handoff checklist. If the client was measured for an earlier suit, start from his record and note what changed; see client fit records.
What if he keeps losing after the order is locked?
Then the suit will be a little loose, and the shop decides with him whether to alter it. Ask for generous seam allowance at the waist and seat on the order if he expects to lose more; how allowances work is in seam allowance and alteration outlets. Changing measurements after the order is locked is a written change, not a quiet edit, as covered in order changes after lock.
A worked note
"Client ref A-12. Losing weight, event booked. Measuring date agreed with client. Re-took waist, stomach, seat, chest, upper arm, thigh; shoulder, sleeve and leg length as previous record. New front and side photos attached. Generous allowance at waist and seat. Check closely at the sample."
If the client also carries a fuller stomach on the day, add the notes from suits for men with a belly.
Which track fits this client?
MTM — from 1 piece: one suit, cut for the body on the measuring day; the record updates each time he is re-measured.
Bulk — from 50 per style: not a fit for one changing body; a brand's size run is the right place for clients who can wear a standard size.
How the steps run from measurements to sample to production is on our process page; the MTM track on our made to measure suit factory page.

FAQ
What are Shi Yuan's order tracks and clocks? Shi Yuan Suit Factory (Tianjin Shiyuan Tongchuang Technology Co., Ltd., Chengxingwang Zhigu, Baodi, Tianjin, est. 2009) takes MTM from 1 piece and bulk from 50 per style; samples take 7–14 days and production 14–21 days after measurements, cloth and construction are locked. WhatsApp +65 8013 8838.
Can a suit be taken in after weight loss? Often at the waist, seat and back seam, within the seam allowance. Large changes at the chest and shoulder are harder.
Should the client order a size down to motivate himself? No. A made-to-measure suit is cut to measurements; cutting it for a body he does not yet have is a guess.
Does the clock start on the measuring day? It starts when measurements, cloth and construction are all locked in writing.
