Changing an MTM Order After Lock: Get It Confirmed in Writing

Sometimes a client changes a detail after the order is locked — a different lapel, another cloth, a new measurement. The change can be fine. What causes trouble is a change made by voice note with no written reply.

Why the lock matters

Our clocks count from the lock of measurements, cloth and construction:

  • Sample: 7–14 days

  • Production: 14–21 days

Both clocks count from the point measurements, cloth and construction are locked. Production days are not delivery days; shipping is separate and is confirmed in writing on WhatsApp +65 8013 8838.

A change after the lock may affect the work already done. So every change needs a written answer. Production days are not delivery days; if the change also affects shipping, ask for that in writing too.

What to ask in writing

  1. Can the change still be made at this stage?

  2. Does it affect the clock for this order?

  3. Does it affect the price?

  4. Which version is now the locked one?

We answer each of these in writing on WhatsApp +65 8013 8838 for that order. Unit price and delivery dates are never published as fixed site numbers — they are confirmed per order.

Reduce late changes

  • Confirm style details with the client before you send the brief

  • Use a sample for new styles (sample 7–14 days)

  • Keep a client fit record (see our post)

  • Separate "nice to have" client wishes from locked construction notes

Shop example — cloth swap mid-order

A Brisbane boutique locks a navy worsted, then the client brings a different cloth two days later. The shop should not assume the plant can swap silently. Message: cloth name / CMT note, ask the four questions above, wait for written lock of the new version, then treat clocks from that new lock. Mid-thread: WhatsApp — order change after lock.

Order tracks

  • MTM from 1 piece — individual client orders and trial pieces

  • Bulk from 50 pieces per style — private-label and core-style runs

Late changes on a bulk from 50 run are costlier than on MTM from 1 — seal the sample first. If a private-label size run is already cutting, ask whether the change applies to remaining pieces only, and get that scope in writing.

FAQ

Can every change be made after cutting starts? Not always. Ask question 1 in writing — the answer depends on stage.

Does a change always restart the full clock? It may reset or extend the remaining work. We state the effect in writing for that order.

Should I use voice notes for urgency? You can call, but follow with a written summary and wait for a written confirm before treating the change as locked.
