What is a waistband extension for alterations?
It is planned surplus: seam allowance and sometimes a covered tab of cloth at the back or sides so a tailor can release the waist without rebuilding the waistband from scratch. It should be invisible when worn. It is not elastic comfort — that brief is elastic comfort waistband — and it is not a gurkha buckle tab (gurkha trousers).
