Singapore Tailor Shops: Adding a China MTM Partner Without Losing Your House Style

Walk past a few tailor shops in Singapore and you can often tell them apart by their jackets alone: one cuts a soft, natural shoulder; another a cleaner, more structured line; a third is known for its trousers. That house style is what clients return for. So when a shop considers sending part of its work to an outside factory, the first worry is not price or time. It is whether the garments will still look like theirs.

They can, if the style is written down. This post covers what stays in your shop, what goes on the brief, and a one-page house style sheet that travels with every order.

Who does what

  • The client relationship and fitting room stay with your shop; measurements and fit notes go on the brief; the factory adjusts the pattern to them.

  • Cloth selection stays with your shop; the cloth reference and an approved alternate go on the brief; the factory cuts and makes in the chosen construction.

  • House style decisions stay with your shop; a house style sheet is referenced on each order; the factory makes to it.

  • Final fitting and finishing touches stay with your shop; photos and feedback go back after the sample; corrections are recorded for the next order.

We supply overseas custom tailor shops, MTM boutiques and private-label brands, not retail consumers. Your client never deals with us; the garment carries your label.

The house style sheet

Write it once. Reference it by name and date on every order. Change it in writing.

  1. Shoulder: natural, soft pad, or structured — in words, with a photo of a jacket you made.

  2. Lapel: notch or peak as default; width described against a reference jacket.

  3. Button stance and count: your default, and when you vary it.

  4. Pockets: flap, jetted or patch by default; ticket pocket yes or no.

  5. Vents: single, double or none by default.

  6. Construction default: fused, half canvas or full canvas, and when clients may change it.

  7. Lining default: colour family and any signature detail.

  8. Trousers: front (flat or pleated), waistband finish, hem default.

  9. Labels: which labels go where.

Nine lines and two reference photos usually capture what a shop means by "our cut". Individual orders then say "house style sheet v2, except: peak lapel". Details such as linings for a humid climate are a general cloth-and-lining judgement covered in lining fibre for humid markets.

The order flow from Singapore

Measure in your shop. Send the brief on WhatsApp +65 8013 8838 in English, with the house style sheet reference. The sample takes 7–14 days; production takes 14–21 days after measurements, cloth and construction are locked. Production days are not delivery days. The garments are made at our factory in Baodi District, Tianjin; fittings stay in your shop. Singapore and Tianjin share the same clock time, so there is no time difference to plan around.

The first order is usually a house sample: one MTM from 1 garment made to a staff member's measurements and your style sheet. You judge it in your own fitting room before any client order goes in. The photo set to send back is in the sample approval photo set.

Weddings and corporate groups

A wedding party or a company group in matching suits is where the second track helps. For a uniform style in a size spread, bulk from 50 per style runs against a sealed sample. For a small party where each person is measured, MTM from 1 per person keeps your house style on every garment. Party orders are covered in wedding party suit orders.

Planning around the holiday season

Factory schedules change around the holiday period. Our standing advice for shops is simple: order early before Chinese New Year, confirm holiday dates on WhatsApp +65 8013 8838.

A worked example (illustrative)

A shop known for a soft-shoulder, high-notch jacket sends its style sheet, two photos and one house sample order. The sample comes back with the lapel a touch wider than its own. The shop marks it on a photo, the correction is recorded, and the second house sample matches. Every client order after that says "house style v2". The shop's look did not change; its ability to say yes did.

Our single-client route is on our made to measure suit factory page, and the order steps on our process page. Send your house style sheet on WhatsApp +65 8013 8838.
