A custom shop in Canada that outgrows its first supplier usually ends up with two kinds of names on its shortlist: a maker inside the country, and one or two factories overseas. The local option feels simpler. The overseas option looks flexible on paper. Neither feeling is a comparison. A comparison is the same questions, answered in writing, side by side.
We are a factory in China, so we will not describe what any Canadian maker offers — that would be guessing about businesses we do not know. Below are nine fields that actually decide the choice for a tailor shop, with our answers filled in and a blank column for the local maker you are talking to.

The fields where distance really changes things
Freight and import. A local maker's garments do not cross a border; ours do. Ask your forwarder for door-to-door time by the mode you would use, and confirm on WhatsApp who handles import paperwork and duty for your order. This page states no rates and no shipping terms, because neither is ours to publish in general. Time zone. Tianjin runs on China Standard Time. A message sent at the end of a Toronto or Vancouver shop day reaches the factory around its morning, so a question asked before you close can be answered when you open. How we handle the gap is in working across time zones with a China factory.
Labels. Garments sold in Canada carry labelling obligations, including the dealer identity number covered in the CA number on suit labels. The label content is yours to confirm with your own adviser; send the final artwork and we sew what you approve.
The fields where distance changes nothing
Whether the clock has a defined start. Whether bulk is made against a sealed sample. Whether a single client order is accepted. Whether the price is written per brief. How the clocks fit a Canadian shop's calendar
The sample takes 7–14 days; production takes 14–21 days after measurements, cloth and construction are locked. Production days are not delivery days. For a shop that books second fittings, the useful planning unit is "sample window plus courier, then production window plus freight and import". A worked comparison (illustrative)
A two-chair shop in Calgary has a local maker for most of its suits and a growing number of clients its maker turns away: tall builds, one-off cloths, awkward proportions. It sends the worksheet to the local maker and to us. Both fill their column. The shop keeps its local maker for its regular block and opens an MTM from 1 route with us for the outliers, plus a bulk from 50 run for a corporate client. Two suppliers, one sheet, no assumption about either.
