Standalone trouser orders are some of the easiest MTM sales a shop makes: clients who own good jackets but cannot find trousers that fit, golfers and travellers who want odd trousers, and event clients who need tartan trousers or a pair to wear with a dinner jacket. They are also easy to brief badly, because a trouser order looks simple. A trouser has fewer pieces than a jacket, but its fit depends on a handful of measurements that ready-to-wear never gets right.
Three kinds of standalone trouser order
Odd trousers: a pair (or several) in a cloth chosen to go with jackets the client already owns.
Trousers to match an existing jacket: the hardest case — the cloth and lot have to match a garment made earlier.
Event trousers: tartan or formal trousers, often in cloth the client supplies.
The measurements and details that decide the fit

Same fields as a list
Waist: where the client wears it, in cm.
Seat and thigh: body measurements plus ease preference.
Rise: front and back, or a reference trouser.
Knee and hem width: finished widths.
Length: outseam and inseam, with the client's shoes.
Posture: seat, stomach, leg shape.
Details: pleats, adjusters or loops, pockets, turn-ups.

Matching an existing jacket
If the client wants trousers for a jacket made earlier, two questions come before any measurement:
Is the same cloth reference still available, and from which lot? A different lot can show a shade difference next to the jacket.
Has the client's waist or seat changed since the original fit record?
Send the original order reference and a daylight photo of the jacket. If the lot is gone, show the client a swatch against the jacket before ordering. Why lots differ is explained in fabric lot shade consistency.
Tartan and client-supplied cloth
Tartan trousers are usually made from cloth the client buys for their own tartan. Two notes for the brief: the sett (the repeat) has to be matched at the side seams and centre back, which uses extra cloth; and the cloth has to reach the factory before the order can be locked. Ask how much to send before the client orders the length.
Clock and tracks
Standalone trouser orders are MTM from 1 — one pair is an order. Sample 7–14 days applies when a sample is needed (new clients or a new trouser block); production 14–21 days runs after measurements, cloth and construction are locked. A repeat client on a sealed trouser fit can often go straight to production. Production days are not delivery days.
