A suit sold as a set pairs one jacket size with one trouser size — a 40 jacket with a 34 trouser, say — and customers whose bodies do not follow the pairing pay for alterations. Suit separates solve that: jacket and trousers in the same cloth, sold individually, so the customer picks each size. For a private-label brand, separates sell better to more body shapes. They also turn one style into two size runs that must match in cloth and colour for years.

The cloth lot is the whole game
A separates customer buys the jacket today and maybe the trousers next season. If the two come from different dye lots, the shade difference shows when they are worn together. Plan both runs from one lot where possible, and when you reorder one half, ask for the lot before cutting and compare against stock you hold. See fabric lot shade consistency.
Two size splits
Jacket sizes follow chest; trouser sizes follow waist. Customers do not pair them evenly, so the trouser split is often wider than the jacket split. Write both splits separately in the order and let the factory calculate cloth for both together. Grading is covered in size-run grading from 50.
How the 50-per-style rule meets separates
Bulk runs from 50 per style. Whether a separates jacket and its trouser count as one style or two depends on how the order is set up — ask in writing before you plan quantities, and keep the answer on the thread. If you also sell matching waistcoats, ask about those too.
The sample
Approve the jacket and the trouser as a pair on one person, in the same cloth, and then approve each against its own size spec. The sealed sample becomes the reference for both runs; our sample policy explains what sealing fixes. The handoff to bulk is in sealed sample to first bulk.
Clocks
Sample 7–14 days; production 14–21 days after cloth, construction and both size specs are locked. Production days are not delivery days.
