House Block vs Client MTM: How US Boutiques Should Brief a China Suit Factory
US MTM boutiques often blur two workflows in one WhatsApp thread: “run our house block with small tweaks” and “cut this client from scratch.” At Shi Yuan Suit Factory, MTM starts from 1, bulk OEM from 50, samples run 7–14 days after measurements and fabric are confirmed, and production runs 14–21 days after written confirmation. This guide is for overseas custom shops and MTM boutiques that already own a house silhouette — or are building one — and also take true made-to-measure clients. It is not for C-end shoppers. Mixing them — e.g. “use our block but change everything to these client numbers” without saying which wins — creates silent delays. We will ask which document is master before we cut.
When a house block is the right call
Choose house block when:
You sell a named silhouette your customers already recognize
You need try-on stock or trunk-show pieces in graded sizes
You are moving toward private-label bulk from 50 after a seal
Fitters on your floor work faster from a known block than from blank measures

When full client MTM is the right call
Choose client MTM when:
The client sits outside your house size chart (posture, asymmetry, special proportions)
The sale is made-to-order with no try-on garment in that cloth
You promised a true individual cut, not “closest size altered”

How US boutiques should label the WhatsApp brief
Put one line at the top of every order thread:
Path: HOUSE BLOCK — Model X / size 40R or Path: CLIENT MTM — Client initials / measure file v3
Then attach only the files that belong to that path. Do not paste both a block PDF and a client spreadsheet without saying which overrides.
