A safari jacket made with the wrong pocket depth, a belt at the wrong height and a stiff collar looks like a uniform. What makes a safari jacket look tailored?
Proportion and softness. The pockets should sit in line with each other and lie flat when empty, the belt should land at the natural waist, the collar should roll softly at the neck and the cloth should be light enough to wear in heat. A shaped body and a clean shoulder make it read as tailoring rather than workwear. Everything else, from epaulettes to button type, is a brand decision that needs one line on the order.

Which cloth suits a safari jacket?
Light, breathable cloth with a dry hand: linen, linen blends, cotton drill or gabardine, and light tropical worsteds.
