OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 on Suit Cloth: How to Check a Supplier's Claim

Check the certificate number, not the swing tag. OEKO-TEX says every STANDARD 100 item is tested against a list of over 1,000 harmful substances, that certificates are issued for one year, and that you can verify a label by scanning its QR code or entering the certificate number in OEKO-TEX Label Check (OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100). For a suit program, the questions are which material the certificate covers, which product class it was tested to, and whether it is still valid.

What do the four OEKO-TEX product classes mean for a suit?

OEKO-TEX sets stricter requirements the more intense the skin contact:

Product classOEKO-TEX descriptionExample given by OEKO-TEX
Class 1Babies and children up to 3 years; strictest limit valuesDiapers
Class 2Products with direct skin contactBed linens
Class 3Products without direct skin contactJackets
Class 4Home textiles and decoration materialsCurtains

Class 1: OEKO-TEX description: Babies and children up to 3 years; strictest limit values · Example given by OEKO-TEX: Diapers
Class 2: OEKO-TEX description: Products with direct skin contact · Example given by OEKO-TEX: Bed linens
Class 3: OEKO-TEX description: Products without direct skin contact · Example given by OEKO-TEX: Jackets
Class 4: OEKO-TEX description: Home textiles and decoration materials · Example given by OEKO-TEX: Curtains

OEKO-TEX uses jackets as its example of Product Class 3. If you want a stricter class for a layer that sits against the skin, such as linings or trouser pocketing, ask which class that layer's certificate actually covers.

What should I check on a supplier's OEKO-TEX claim?

  • Certificate number: run it through Label Check yourself
  • Scope: the certified article or material (shell cloth, lining, thread, buttons), not the company in general
  • Product class: 1 to 4, matched to how the layer is worn
  • Validity: certificates run for one year, so check the date against your delivery
  • Label use: if you want the label on your own tags, OEKO-TEX publishes a Labelling Guide. Read it before you add the logo to any artwork

Who holds the certificate in a private-label suit program?

The certificate belongs to the certified company and article. On this site Shi Yuan Suit Factory does not claim OEKO-TEX certification. If your program needs certified materials, name the certified cloth, lining or trims in the brief and attach the certificate numbers. That keeps the sealed sample and the bulk on the same documented materials.

"The 7–14 day sample starts once measurements and fabric are confirmed, and bulk OEM from 50 follows sample approval. Name certified materials in writing before that sample." — Shi Yuan Suit Factory (statement built from published factory policy)
