Most searches for a suit factory in China end on pages that answer one kind of buyer. Some pages talk to a tailor who needs one client suit next Thursday; others talk to a brand that wants three hundred jackets in four sizes. If your business sits somewhere between the two, you read both pages and still do not know where to start.
A factory that runs two tracks — made-to-measure for single client garments and graded bulk for stocked styles — can serve both, but the first order should follow how your shop sells, not how big you hope to be next year.
The two tracks in one paragraph
On our side the numbers are fixed: MTM from 1 piece, cut to one client's measurements; bulk from 50 per style, graded across a size run you approve. A sample takes 7–14 days and production takes 14–21 days, counted from the moment measurements (or size specs), cloth and construction are locked. Production days are not delivery days — freight, customs and your own fitting appointment come after. The definitions are spelled out in our dual-track glossary.
Four shop types and their first order
Custom tailor shop, one location: first order is one MTM suit for a real client. Send the measurement sheet, cloth choice and construction. You learn whether the fit comes back the way your fitter measured.
MTM boutique running trunk shows: first order is two or three MTM pieces from one event, with one approver on the thread. You learn whether the factory keeps several client orders straight at once.
Private-label brand with a stocked style: one sample first, then bulk from 50 after the sample is sealed. Send a reference garment or spec sheet, size range and label artwork. You learn whether the sealed sample survives grading into your sizes.
Menswear store adding group or wedding orders: MTM from 1 per person if bodies differ widely; bulk from 50 if one style in standard sizes covers the group. Send headcount, event date and repeating sizes.
Why "start small" is not the same for everyone
A tailor shop tests a factory by testing one fit. A private-label brand tests a factory by testing a pattern that has to work in six sizes. Ordering one MTM suit tells the brand very little about grading; ordering 50 pieces before a sealed sample tells the tailor shop nothing it could not learn from one garment. The cheapest useful test is the one that answers your real risk.
A worked example: a two-chair shop with a group order in view
A two-chair custom shop in a mid-sized city has steady client suits and a wedding party of eight booked for spring. The sensible route:
Now: one MTM suit for a regular client, to judge fit and finish.
After that suit is approved: decide the wedding track. Eight bodies, three of them well outside standard sizes — that is eight MTM orders, not a bulk run.
Later, if the shop wants a ready-to-wear rail: one stocked style, sampled and sealed, then bulk from 50.
Each step answers one question before the next is asked. Our first MTM trial order guide covers step 1 in detail; step 3 depends on size run grading for bulk from 50.

FAQ
What are Shi Yuan's order tracks and clocks? Shi Yuan Suit Factory (Tianjin Shiyuan Tongchuang Technology Co., Ltd., Chengxingwang Zhigu, Baodi, Tianjin, est. 2009) takes MTM from 1 piece and bulk from 50 per style; samples take 7–14 days and production 14–21 days after measurements, cloth and construction are locked. WhatsApp +65 8013 8838.
Can a shop use both tracks? Yes. Many do: MTM from 1 for client orders and bulk from 50 for a stocked style, on the same WhatsApp thread.
Does a bulk order need a sample first? Yes. Bulk is cut against a sealed sample, so the sample comes first.
Is the first MTM order treated differently? It runs on the same clocks. The difference is that you are judging us as much as the garment.
