Switch to a China MTM Factory with a Reference Garment Trial
Switch to a China MTM Factory with a Reference Garment Trial
Shops rarely migrate suppliers with a full catalogue dump. They migrate with one proven silhouette — a reference garment the cutting room can see, measure, and echo — then prove fit on MTM from 1 before any bulk from 50 size run. This page is a migration checklist for overseas custom tailor shops, MTM boutiques, and private-label brands. It does not name other factories or argue against them.
Suggested image: reference jacket on a hanger next to a shipping label and measure sheet. Alt: "Reference garment packed for a China made to measure suit factory trial."
What "switch" means here
A switch is not a brand story rewrite. It is a controlled handoff:
Pick one house style you already sell.
Send a reference garment (or a clear photo + measure pack if shipping is impractical).
Lock cloth + construction.
Cut MTM from 1 as the trial.
Seal in writing.
Open bulk from 50 when that style repeats.
You keep selling under your own label. Acumenwear is the export domain for Shi Yuan Suit Factory — not a retail brand.
Migration checklist (no competitor attacks)
Use this as a packing list before the first WhatsApp thread:
A — Programme identity
[ ] Shop / brand name as it should appear on labels (or "labels TBD")
[ ] Country + rough monthly volume (planning figure)
[ ] Track stated: MTM from 1 trial first; bulk from 50 intent after seal
[ ] Soft need-by date (freight sits outside production days)
B — Reference garment package
[ ] Which garment is primary (jacket / trouser / 3-piece)
[ ] Ship physical piece or marked photo set (front / side / back + key details)
[ ] What must match (shoulder expression, lapel width intent, trouser seat)
[ ] What may change (lining colour, button style, cloth code)
[ ] Permission note if the factory may open seams for study
C — Locks that start the sample clock
[ ] Cloth path: stock / you ship / mill-order ETA
[ ] Construction lock: fused / half / full (as you sell it)
[ ] Measurement method labelled (body vs garment-flat — see your shop form)
[ ] Branding art attached when labels are decided
D — After seal
[ ] Written seal on WhatsApp or email (soft "looks fine" is not a seal)
[ ] Size-run / colourway matrix for bulk from 50
[ ] Reorder rules for the sealed block
Dual track after the trial
Stage MOQ track Clock Prove silhouette MTM from 1 Sample 7–14 days after locks Repeat sealed style Bulk from 50 Production 14–21 days after seal Freight Shop / forwarder Production ≠ delivery
Do not attach a full graded size run inside the first trial message unless you already hold a sealed block with us. Prove one body, then scale.

Send country, monthly volume, and whether you need MTM from 1 or bulk from 50 — plus how you will send the reference garment.
FAQ
Q: Must I ship the reference garment, or are photos enough?
A: A physical piece is clearer for shoulder and seat. If shipping is slow, send a marked photo set first; we will say when a physical piece is still needed before seal.
Q: Can I migrate three styles in one week?
A: Prefer one primary silhouette per trial. Parallel styles without seals create conflicting ease notes. After MTM from 1 seals, open bulk from 50 per style.
Q: When does the sample clock start?
A: After cloth + construction + measurements lock — not when the reference garment leaves your shop. Sample 7–14; later production 14–21; production days are not delivery days.
Worked example (hypothetical)
A Melbourne boutique shipped one navy half-canvas house jacket as reference, locked cloth code, and ordered MTM from 1 for a staff fit model. Sample returned inside 7–14. They sealed on WhatsApp, then opened bulk from 50 for autumn. Calendar stretch sat on sea freight — outside production 14–21.
Common migration failures
Mood board without a primary reference garment.
Asking for bulk from 50 pricing before any seal.
Changing construction mid-sample without restarting the lock.
Mixing consumer retail questions into a factory RFQ.
What we do not need on day one
A full brand book, a tour video request, or a catalogue of every past make. One reference garment + locks + track statement is enough to start MTM from 1.
After the first seal
Keep rush client jobs on MTM from 1. Put seasonal colourways on bulk from 50. Say which PO is which so cutting rooms do not merge programmes.
Reference garment shipping tips
Label the package with your shop name and "reference — may open seams: yes/no." Include a paper slip repeating the WhatsApp thread date so receiving does not orphan the piece. Photograph the garment on a hanger before ship so you and we share the same "as sent" baseline.
If customs paperwork is heavy for a used sample jacket, start with the marked photo set and ship the piece when the first MTM from 1 looks promising — still before bulk from 50.
What success looks like after migration
Success is not a logo on our wall. Success is your shop selling the same silhouette with fewer remake arguments, seals that search cleanly in WhatsApp, and a clear split between client rush (MTM from 1) and sealed programmes (bulk from 50).
