Private-Label Direct-to-Customer Shipping — Questions Shops Should Ask

Private-Label Direct-to-Customer Shipping — Questions Shops Should Ask

Some private-label programmes want cartons to land at the wearer's door under the shop's brand. That model mixes manufacturing, labelling, Incoterms, and returns law. This page is a question brief for shops evaluating that path — not a claim that Shi Yuan offers direct-to-customer (DTC) shipping capability.

Read this disclaimer first

We manufacture for overseas custom tailor shops, MTM boutiques, and private-label brands. Whether any factory — including ours — can or should ship DTC under your label depends on contracts, licences, and logistics you negotiate in writing. Do not treat this article as confirmation of a DTC service. Use the questions below in your RFQ so answers stay explicit.

Programme context still uses dual MOQ when you discuss make quantities: MTM from 1 · bulk from 50.

Question set 1 — commercial & Incoterms

# Ask the factory / forwarder Why it matters Your notes 1 Which Incoterms apply if the parcel goes to the wearer? Risk and cost split change vs shop warehouse delivery __________ 2 Who is importer of record in the destination country? Duties, compliance, seizure risk __________ 3 Whose name appears on the commercial invoice? Brand vs manufacturer disclosure __________ 4 Are multi-piece suits one HS line or split lines? Brokerage delays __________ 5 Who buys insurance on the last leg? Lost / damaged parcel ownership __________

Question set 2 — labels, packaging, brand control

# Ask Why it matters Notes 6 Where do care / fibre / origin labels sit — and who supplies them? Local labelling law __________ 7 Can factory logos appear anywhere inside the garment or carton? White label / private label suits purity __________ 8 Who prints packing slips and return instructions? Wearer experience under your brand __________ 9 Are hangtags and size labels your artwork files? Brand consistency __________ 10 How are misfires (wrong address / refused parcel) handled? Cost + brand damage __________

Question set 3 — returns, alterations, remakes

# Ask Why it matters Notes 11 Does the wearer return to the shop or to a China address? Reverse logistics complexity __________ 12 Who pays return freight on fit issues? Margin leakage __________ 13 Is a factory remake still defined when the shop never saw the garment? Evidence standards __________ 14 Do production clocks restart after a DTC return? Calendar vs wearer promise __________ 15 Confirm: production days ≠ delivery to wearer Shops over-promise when they merge clocks __________

Numbers lock (mid-article reminder for any make path): after measurements + cloth + construction lock, sample work is discussed in a 7–14 day factory window and production in a 14–21 day factory window. Neither window is a door-to-door promise to a wearer. Production ≠ delivery.

Question set 4 — data, privacy, compliance

16) Which PII (name, address, phone) may the factory store, and for how long?
17) Is wearer data allowed on WeChat / WhatsApp threads, or must it stay in your CRM?
18) Who answers customs inquiries that name the wearer?
19) Are there destination countries you refuse for DTC parcels?
20) What written addendum attaches DTC rules to the master manufacturing agreement?

Private label suit manufacturers and white label suits wholesale programmes that skip 16–20 often discover the gap after the first refused delivery.

How to use these questions without assuming capability

  1. Send the tables as an RFQ appendix.

  2. Require answers in writing on the same legal entity that cuts cloth.

  3. Keep shop-warehouse shipping as the default until DTC answers are signed.

  4. Separate "can you sew our label" from "can you act as our DTC shipper."

FAQ

Q: Does this page mean you ship to my clients under my brand?
A: No. This page lists evaluation questions. Capability, if any, must be confirmed in a signed agreement — not inferred from a blog.

Q: Should white label suits wholesale always use DTC?
A: Many programmes ship to the shop or a 3PL first. DTC is a separate logistics product with separate risk.

Q: Do MOQs change if the parcel goes to a wearer?
A: Make quantities still follow programme tracks — MTM from 1 and bulk from 50 — unless a contract says otherwise. Shipping mode does not erase MOQ honesty.

Q: Who do I verify before any shipping discussion?
A: Tianjin Shiyuan Tongchuang Technology Co., Ltd., Chengxingwang Zhigu, Baodi District, Tianjin, acumenwear.com, WhatsApp +65 8013 8838.

Next step

Run questions 1–20 against your current or prospective plant. Keep promises to wearers one step behind signed answers. For make trials, still brief MTM from 1 or bulk from 50 on WhatsApp.
