Stripe & Check Matching on a Private-Label Suit Sample
Stripe & Check Matching on a Private-Label Suit Sample
Patterned cloth fails QC in public: a broken stripe at the lapel, a check that does not meet across a pocket flap, a side seam where horizontals drift. For private-label programmes, sign the matching points on the sample before the production clock starts. This page is a QC process brief for overseas shops — not a claim about fancy loom counts.

Why matching must be sealed before production
Sample 7–14 days after locks proves construction and fit. Matching is part of that proof when cloth is striped or checked. If you seal "fit OK" but never sign match points, bulk from 50 can ship with inconsistent joins across sizes. Production 14–21 after seal; production days are not delivery days.
Plain cloth still needs alignment notes for nap or directional weave — say so in the brief.
Match-point table (sign on sample)
Zone What to check Pass signal Collar / lapel Stripe or check continuous across gorge and lapel edge Written OK + photo Centre front Verticals meet across button stance Written OK + photo Pocket flaps / welts Horizontals align with body Written OK + photo Side seams (jacket) Horizontals meet within agreed tolerance Written OK Sleeve pitch stripe Stripe pitch follows sleeve hang Written OK Back vent / seam Pattern continues or intentionally breaks (state which) Written OK Trouser side seam Horizontals meet at seat and thigh Written OK Trouser crease / stripe Crease follows intended stripe (when cloth allows) Written OK
Agree in writing whether a planned break (e.g. at pocket) is intentional. Silence becomes a dispute later.
Sample → seal → production path
Lock cloth code + construction + measures (MTM from 1 trial or programme sample).
Sample inside 7–14 after locks.
Shop signs fit and match-point table (or marks intentional breaks).
Written seal on WhatsApp / email.
Bulk from 50 production 14–21 after seal.
Freight separate — production ≠ delivery.

FAQ
Q: Do you match every stripe on every size in bulk from 50?
A: We follow the sealed sample's match rules across the size run. State priority zones before seal so grading does not invent new breaks.
Q: What if the cloth repeat is too large to match everywhere?
A: Say so early. We agree intentional breaks in writing on the sample — before production 14–21 starts.
Q: Is matching part of the sample fee discussion?
A: Patterned cloth needs more cutting care; raise it in the first brief so the sample scope is clear. Clocks still follow lock → 7–14 sample → seal → 14–21 production.
Worked example (hypothetical)
A Dubai private-label brand sent a windowpane reference jacket with three priority zones marked. Sample returned inside 7–14; they signed collar/lapel and pocket flaps, accepted a planned break at the ticket pocket, then opened bulk from 50. Disputes stayed low because the breaks were written.
Common failures
Sealing fit while ignoring match photos.
Changing cloth lot mid-bulk without a shade + match re-check.
Asking for bulk from 50 before any signed sample.
Vague "match nicely" with no zone list.
Plain cloth note
If cloth is plain, write "plain — no stripe match" so QC does not hunt for a pattern. Directional / nap cloth still needs a direction note.
Dual track
Trial a patterned style on MTM from 1. After signed match points, repeat on bulk from 50. Keep the sealed photos in the same thread as the PO.
Photos that prove matching
When you seal, attach:
Collar/lapel close-up
Pocket flap close-up
Side seam (jacket and trouser if patterned)
Full front for context
Name files match-collar.jpg, match-flap.jpg, etc. Soft "looks fine" without photos is weak evidence if a later size in bulk from 50 drifts.
Cloth lot changes
If a reorder uses a new mill lot, ask for a match re-check on a size you care about before the full 14–21 production run. Shade and pattern registration can shift even when the code looks identical on paper.
Who signs
The same person who owns fit seal should own match seal — or explicitly delegate. Split ownership is how fit gets approved while matching stays silent.
