Knit blazers sell because they feel like a cardigan and look like a jacket. Customers wear them on planes, at the office and over a T-shirt. For a brand, they are also a source of returns when the shape does not hold: the fronts grow, the pockets sag, the shoulder collapses and the collar lies flat. Knitted cloth stretches in ways woven cloth does not, so the construction has to be written for it rather than copied from a suit jacket.
What is a jersey blazer, and how is it different from a regular blazer?
A regular blazer is cut from woven cloth, built with a canvas or fused front, shoulder pads and a full or half lining. A jersey blazer is cut from a knit, often wool, cotton or a blend with some elastane, and built much lighter: little or no padding, a light or no lining, and soft edges. The knit gives comfort and stretch; the construction decides whether it still looks like a jacket at the end of the day.

Stretch: woven — little, unless stretch yarn; jersey — natural stretch in the knit.
Front: woven — canvas or fused front; jersey — light fusing or none, with stabilised edges.
Shoulder: woven — pad and sleeve head as house style; jersey — soft, little or no pad.
Lining: woven — full or half; jersey — unlined or a light half lining.
Pockets: woven — jetted, flap or patch; jersey — patch most common, and must be stabilised.
Risk: woven — shine and creasing; jersey — growth, sagging and loss of shape.
Why do knit blazers lose their shape?
Unstabilised edges. Front edges, lapel roll and hem stretch as they are worn. A tape along the edges and roll line holds them.
Heavy pockets. Phones and keys pull patch pockets down. A light backing behind the pocket area and reinforced corners help.
Shoulder seams. Without tape the shoulder seam grows and the jacket slides back.
Pressing. Knits can be stretched by pressing. Press with lifted steam, not by pushing the iron.
Cloth choice. Loose, light knits grow more than firm, dense ones. A firmer knit with good recovery is easier to tailor.

Judge the sample twice: when it arrives, and after it has been worn for a few hours and hung overnight.
Fronts and hem: do they hang level, or have they grown?
Pockets: empty and with a phone inside, do they keep their shape?
Shoulder: does the seam sit at the shoulder point?
