A double-breasted jacket has more decisions packed into the front than a single-breasted one. If they are not locked on the sample, they come back as questions in the middle of a bulk run. Here are the points we ask private-label brands and custom shops to lock, in order.
1. Button layout
State the layout in standard notation: 6×2, 6×1, 4×2 or 4×1 (buttons shown × buttons that fasten). Also state whether the bottom button fastens and whether there is an inside jigger button. Send a photo or sketch of the reference.
2. Overlap and lapel
Double-breasted fronts need a wider overlap. Name the lapel style (most double-breasted jackets use peak lapels) and send a reference for lapel width and gorge height. We match the reference on the sample; you approve the sample, not a description.
3. Cloth and construction
Name the cloth (or send it for CMT) and the construction: fused or half-canvas. A double-breasted front carries more cloth, so cloth weight and drape affect how the front hangs — judge this on the physical sample. We do not invent tolerance numbers; if your house standard has a written overlap or button-stance note, attach it.
4. Size set
For bulk, confirm the size run and which size the sample is cut in. Grading follows the approved sample.
5. Labels, trims and packing
Main label, size label, care label, buttons and hanger or fold packing — list each with a photo or artwork file.
6. Order tracks and clocks
