AQL & Stitch Defects for China Suit OEM Programs
EU private-label teams often ask for “AQL” before bulk without listing which stitch defects matter on a suit. At Shi Yuan Suit Factory, bulk OEM starts from 50. This commercial-investigation post gives a defect-category checklist and how we photo during bulk — without duplicating our broader QC posts.
Sample masters: 7–14 days after measurements and fabric are confirmed. Production: 14–21 days after written confirmation. MTM from 1 stays for specials. Factory: Baodi, Tianjin · Chengxingwang · Est. 2009. Acumenwear = export domain.

How this post relates to existing QC guides
Overall QC mindset: QC inspection before bulk
Photo asks during production: QC photos during bulk
Sample remakes: sample defect rework
Here we zoom into stitch / seam / make categories EU buyers should name in the PO.
Defect categories checklist (stitch & make)
Use as a buyer–factory shared list. Mark Critical / Major / Minor in your own AQL plan.
Critical (usually reject / rework)
[ ] Open seam that fails finger test on stress points
[ ] Broken stitch on seat seam / crotch / shoulder join
[ ] Missing bar-tack where specified
[ ] Needle cut that risks hole after press
[ ] Wrong stitch type vs sealed sample (e.g. chain where lock required)
Major (rework or negotiate)
[ ] Uneven topstitch width beyond agreed tolerance
[ ] Puckering on lapel or pocket mouth after press
[ ] Visible skipped stitches on public seams
[ ] Buttonhole bite uneven vs sample
[ ] Lining hitch that twists hem
Minor (record / release with note)
[ ] Single loose thread end (trimmable)
[ ] Slightly uneven pick stitch within tolerance
[ ] Tiny oil spot removable on press (if agreed)
Write tolerances (mm) for topstitch and pocket flappiness on the sealed sample sheet — do not assume “AQL 2.5” alone teaches a tailor what you mean on a notch lapel.
How we photo stitch issues during bulk
Agree photo points in writing:
Chest / lapel roll (both sides)
Pocket mouth close-up
Vent / hem
Trouser seat seam
Buttonhole row
Any flagged defect with finger-test still
Send job # + size + defect category in the same WhatsApp message. Spirit matches our QC-photo post; this list is stitch-specific.

Common EU questions
Do you run statistical AQL on every 50-pc order? We inspect against the sealed sample and agreed points. Formal AQL sampling plans are applied when the buyer specifies the plan in writing.
Can we add AQL after cut? Late standards create disputes. Attach before written confirmation.
Is puckering always a reject? Depends on cloth + agreed tolerance after press — define on sample.
Example tolerance lines EU buyers can attach
Topstitch width: 0.6 cm ± 0.1 cm on lapel face
Pocket flap symmetry: ± 0.2 cm vs sample
Buttonhole bite: match sealed sample photo; no open bite
Seat seam: zero open seam on finger test
Loose ends: none on public surfaces at final audit
Attach these under your AQL numbers. Numbers without millimeters still leave room for argument.
How stitch QA interacts with fabric
Open weaves show puckering faster after press. If you seal on tropical cloth, do not silently swap to a denser lot mid-bulk and keep the same stitch tension expectations without a new confirm. Lot changes are fabric events and stitch events together — see shade discipline posts for lot handling.
Pseudo-AQL conversation starters (buyer-owned numbers)
Example WhatsApp lines (replace with your standard):
“Inspection: general level II, AQL Critical 0 / Major 2.5 / Minor 4.0 — defect dictionary attached.”
“Draw n=8 from first 50; photograph any Major before release.”
“Rework within production window when make-caused; transit damage separate.”
We execute against your written plan. We do not invent ISO theater on the blog.
When stitch defects are not make defects
Transit crush that opens a previously sound seam
Boutique alterations after receipt
Client wear before inspection window closes
Steam abuse at door (excessive heat on open weaves)
Photograph on arrival. Separate claims keep OEM trust intact. Pair with packing choices in the hanger vs fold post when presentation damage is the issue.
Bottom line
AQL without a stitch dictionary is theater. Use the checklist, agree photos, then bulk from 50 with clear rework rules. Shi Yuan · +65 8013 8838 · houzhenying226@gmail.com
