Digital Suit Mockup vs Physical Sample — China Factory Decision Guide

# Digital Suit Mockup vs Physical Sample — China Factory Decision Guide

A digital render can speed a style conversation. It cannot replace handfeel, balance on a body, or stitch behaviour on your cloth. Overseas shops should know when a mockup helps and when a physical sample is mandatory before bulk.

## The rule we will not soften

Approve a physical sample before you commit bulk from 50. Use digital tools to reduce wrong turns — not to skip the cloth-and-needle gate. After lock, our windows stay: sample 7–14 days · production 14–21 days. Production is still not delivery.

## Decision table — digital helps vs physical required

- Situation: Early silhouette / detail brainstorm · **Digital mockup / render:** Helps · Physical sample: Optional later · Why: Cheap way to discard extreme lapel / pocket ideas

- Situation: Colourway mood for client presentation · **Digital mockup / render:** Helps (with caveats) · Physical sample: Still needed before bulk · Why: Screen colour ≠ cloth dye lot

- Situation: New cloth you have never cut · Digital mockup / render: Weak alone · **Physical sample:** Required · Why: Handfeel, drape, and seam behaviour need cloth

- Situation: House-block change (shoulder / canvas idea) · Digital mockup / render: Weak alone · **Physical sample:** Required · Why: Balance shows on a body or form, not in pixels

- Situation: Private-label logo / label placement sketch · **Digital mockup / render:** Helps · Physical sample: Confirm on physical · Why: Print size and stitch catch differ in real goods

- Situation: Sealed path before bulk from 50 · Digital mockup / render: Not enough · **Physical sample:** Required · Why: Sealed sample is the commercial reference

- Situation: Single MTM from 1 client critical event · Digital mockup / render: Maybe for style talk · **Physical sample:** Required if risk is high · Why: Client wears cloth, not a PNG

- Situation: Reorder of an already sealed block · Digital mockup / render: Usually skip new mockup · Physical sample: Skip new sample only if nothing changed · Why: Change = new physical check

If a cell says Required, do not let a salesperson talk you into "render approval = production start."

## What digital is good for inside a shop programme

1. Aligning vocabulary ("this gorge height, not that") before you cut.

2. Showing a client two detail options without burning two cloths.

3. Marking label coordinates for the tech conversation.

What digital is bad at: selling softness of canvas, trouser crease behaviour, and shade under store lighting.

## Typical programme path that mixes both tools

1. Week planning: digital mockup to kill two weak detail options.

2. Lock: cloth on hand + measures + construction in writing.

3. Physical sample: window 7–14 days.

4. Fit / written approval on your side (this time is yours, not factory production).

5. **Production:** 14–21 days for the approved make — MTM from 1 follow-ons or bulk from 50 after seal.

6. Freight: separate booking; do not rename it "production."

Shops that jump from step 1 to step 5 are the ones who reopen construction after goods are cut.

## Language to use with your client (boutique side)

- "Screen preview for style direction only."

- "Wearable approval happens on the physical sample."

- "Bulk from 50 waits for sealed physical reference."

That script protects your margin when a client falls in love with a render that used the wrong cloth handfeel.

## Dual track framing

- MTM from 1 — a physical sample (or groom / client sample) is often the entire learning loop; mockups are optional pre-work.

- Bulk from 50 — mockups may trim design meetings; the sealed physical sample still gates production 14–21.

We manufacture for overseas custom shops and private-label programmes — not C-end retail lookbook drops.

## Procurement note for multi-shop groups

If several boutiques share one private-label programme, centralize who may approve a render versus who may approve a physical sealed sample. Render approval can be marketing-led. Seal approval should stay with whoever owns returns and alterations. Mixing those roles is how a pretty mockup becomes an expensive bulk mistake.

## Clock honesty when you insist on physical

```
Day 0: measurements + cloth on hand + construction lock
Then: sample 7–14 (physical)
Then: your wear / fitting / written approval
Then: production 14–21
Then: freight (separate)
```

Skipping the physical line to "save two weeks" usually spends those weeks later on returns or bitter clients.

## FAQ

Q: Can we approve bulk from a digital mockup only?‍ ‍

A: We do not recommend it. For bulk from 50, approve a physical sealed sample. Digital is a conversation tool.

Q: How long is the physical sample window?‍ ‍

A: Sample 7–14 days after measurements, cloth, and construction lock. Then production 14–21 after written approval. Neither number is delivery.

Q: Do you offer a guaranteed "24-hour render" product?‍ ‍

A: We do not publish invented render SLAs here. Ask on WhatsApp what visual aids we can share for your specific brief — then budget time for physical sampling.

## Next step

If you are choosing details, use a mockup. If you are choosing cloth behaviour or locking bulk from 50, book the physical sample.
