Customer-Supplied Fabric (CMT) Suits from a China Factory — What Boutiques Should Confirm

CMT means the factory cuts, makes, and trims on cloth you supply — it does not invent your fabric program. A plain-English manufacturing guide describes CMT as a structured cut–make–trim path that still needs pattern, sample, fit, and make stages, and notes that brands often supply their own fabric for hero cloths (Paul Brown England CMT guide). For a China suit factory partnership, the boutique’s job is to lock cloth lot, construction, and track (MTM from 1 or bulk from 50) in writing before the sample clock starts.

How do clocks work on customer cloth?

Sample 7–14 days after measurements (or size run), cloth receipt, and construction lock. Production 14–21 days after written sample approval. Production ≠ delivery. If your cloth arrives late or short, the sample clock does not start early.

"For CMT we cut your lot, we do not substitute mill stock without written OK. Say MTM from 1 or bulk from 50 up front. Sample 7–14 days after cloth and construction lock; production 14–21 days after sealed approval." — Shi Yuan Suit Factory (statement built from published factory policy)

FAQ

Does CMT mean the factory also sources the suit cloth?

No. CMT is cut, make, trim on the cloth you supply (or clearly indent). Full-package sourcing is a different ask — say which you want on WhatsApp.

Can CMT run on both MOQ tracks?

Yes. One-client CMT suits use MTM from 1. Graded private-label CMT uses bulk from 50 after a sealed sample on that cloth.

What if customer fabric arrives short?

Tell us meters and piece numbers before cut. Short lots may force a reduced size run or a hold — we do not invent meters.
