Country-of-Origin Marking for Export Suits Bound for the US
US-bound private-label suits need a written country-of-origin (COO) marking plan before bulk from 50. Under 19 CFR §134.11, every article of foreign origin (or its container) imported into the United States shall be marked in a conspicuous place as legibly, indelibly, and permanently as the nature of the article will permit, showing the English name of the country of origin to the ultimate purchaser (19 CFR §134.11; Part 134 overview).
This post is a factory briefing for how buyers lock label copy with us. It is not legal advice. Confirm final marking with your customs broker or counsel.
What does 19 CFR §134.11 require in plain terms?
Three marking qualities sit at the centre of the rule: the mark must be as legible, indelible, and permanent as the article allows, and it must sit in a conspicuous place so the ultimate purchaser sees the English country name.
What should a US private-label shop lock before bulk?
| Item | What to write for the factory |
|---|---|
| English COO wording | Exact phrase you want on the garment (e.g. Made in China) as counsel/broker directs |
| Placement | Neck, side seam, care cluster, or other conspicuous location you approve |
| Marking method | Woven label, printed care label, hangtag, or combination |
| Container marking | Whether cartons also carry COO per your broker's instruction |
| Sample check | Approve the physical mark on the sealed sample before bulk from 50 |

When does COO copy need to be final at Shi Yuan?
Before sample confirmation. Sample takes 7–14 days after measurements and fabric are confirmed. Production takes 14–21 days after sealed-sample approval. Construction (fused, half canvas, or full canvas) is confirmed per order and is separate from marking copy.
What we will not invent on labels
We sew the COO text you approve in writing. We do not invent US legal language for you, and we do not claim FTC or CBP certification for the factory.
"We sew the country-of-origin wording you approve in writing before the sealed sample. Bulk from 50 follows that approved mark—not a chat assumption." — Shi Yuan Suit Factory (statement built from published factory policy)
